Is Acupuncture Effective for Pain?

One of the things Acupuncture is most known for is treatment pain in general. Acupuncture is excellent for pain relief from both acute and chronic conditions. We treat many types of pain, including neck pain, low back pain, sciatica, fibromyalgia, myofascial pain syndrome, tendonitis, knee pain, etc... Acupuncture can be effective for almost any type of pain, and often when other therapies have been uneffective.

How Does Acupuncture Help With Pain?

Acupuncture works on pain in the body utilizing many mechanisms. Acupuncture can work locally at the site of injury by decreasing inflammation, which gives the body a chance to heal and decreases pain. Acupuncture also blocks large nerves that send pain signals to the brain by stimulating small nerves in the area of the injury. In a broader way, Acupuncture affects areas of the brain that perceive pain; by changing how the brain perceives pain, Acupuncture may be changing how we relate to pain from chronic conditions. The takeaway is this: it can help with most pain conditions!
